Under the guidance and direction of Basic Art teacher Ms. Danica David, St. Croix Educational Complex High School (SCECHS) made a remarkable and memorable impression at the 2025 STEAM Expo. This event was proudly hosted by the Virgin Islands Department of Education's Science Coordinator, Ms. Joann Lewis. At the expo, students Kwame English and Lyinisha Joseph unveiled their innovative project titled Lights of Culture. This captivating performance featured a UV-illuminated Moko Jumbie set against an enchanting bioluminescent beach backdrop, creating an immersive and visually stunning exhibit. The project beautifully combined elements of Virgin Islands folklore with scientific principles, demonstrating the fascinating phenomena of ultraviolet fluorescence and marine bioluminescence. Through this creative approach, the exhibit successfully engaged attendees by blending cultural storytelling with educational STEM concepts.

Lights of Culture received high praise for its exceptional technical skill, artistic creativity, and deep cultural significance. This project stands as an inspiring example of the power and value of interdisciplinary education, where the arts and sciences come together to create meaningful and innovative learning experiences. St. Croix Educational Complex High School proudly acknowledges and commends the dedication, creativity, and professionalism displayed by Kwame English and Lyinisha Joseph throughout the development and presentation of this remarkable project. Furthermore, SCECHS extends its sincere gratitude to the Virgin Islands Department of Education for providing important opportunities that nurture and celebrate the integration of arts and science, fostering an environment where students are encouraged to explore, innovate, and express their talents across multiple disciplines.
