SCECHS NATIONAL ART HONOR SOCIETY STUDENTS DESIGN MURAL

St. Croix Educational Complex High School National Art Honor Society students recently designed the second Barra Virtue Mocko Jumbie mural. Senior students Bianca Alexis, Zaquira Carti, and Monet Roserie completed the mural to fulfill their last project requisite in Danica David’s Advanced Art class. Ms. David and fellow Sculpture and Ceramic educator, Mr. Dwaydale Dariah instructed them during the mural creation. This year’s Barra Virtue Mocko Jumbie mural design was inspired by the Virgin Islands Centennial theme. The design includes the Danish, the United States of America and Virgin Islands flag. The virtue, compassion was selected by Speech and Drama teacher Ms. Sayeeda Carter. Last year’s virtue, integrity was selected by Ms. David. The current mural was consummated within a one month period.

After graduation, Bianca Alexis, Zaquira Carti, and Monet Roserie will all attend various universities. Alexis will study Hospitality and Tourism Management at the University of the Virgin Islands. Carti will study Animation and Photography at Sam Houston State University in Texas. Roserie will study Psychology and Linguistics at the University of the Virgin Islands. Alexis and Roserie who are not art majors plan to perpetuate drawing and working on other ingenious projects in the future. ‘I’ve always been intrigued with art. I'm an artistic person for life, Alexis verbally expressed.”

The St. Croix Educational Complex High School Barra Virtue Mocko Jumbie Project commenced last school year with Ms. David’s Advanced Art students and Mr. Dariah’s Sculpture and Ceramic students. The project was developed to showcase students’ artistic facilities and instill school pride.
